High demand during COVID-19 makes remanufactured go mainstream

Monday, 18 May 2020

In an unprecedented move, Circular Computing's carbon-neutral remanufactured Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptops are being promoted to consumers alongside a brand-new model - by HP itself.

An HP direct mail campaign currently running in Denmark for the new Elitebook 840 G6 laptop also features the Elitebook 840 G1 from Circular Computing™. For a global brand to present a remanufactured, outgoing model as a direct alternative to a new product is extremely unusual, and a highly significant endorsement of Circular Computing’s approach to sustainability at the high end of the consumer IT market.

Under the headline ‘We believe in reincarnation – at least when it applies to HP Notebooks’ the mailer explains that the CircularComputing™ 840 G1 looks and performs exactly like a new machine. It undergoes five hours of remanufacturing and a complete external recoat, and is supplied with a full three-year warranty. HP highlights that it uses high-quality materials and components in the original build to ensure longevity and sustainability ‘because it is good business for you and the environment.’

The exceptional vote of confidence in the Circular Computing™ range coincides with a worldwide shortage in OEM laptops and raw materials as the Covid-19 pandemic sends demand for laptops for home-working soaring.

“Our remanufactured laptops offer the perfect solution for people suddenly faced with having to work remotely and struggling to find a suitable laptop,” says Founder Rod Neale. “A Circular Computing™ laptop offers an almost identical performance and reliability to a new machine, but at lower cost and with immediate availability. This endorsement from HP itself means people really can buy with complete confidence.

“Plus, users have the peace of mind of knowing they’re making a genuinely ethical purchase. Every Circular Computing™ laptop is certified carbon-neutral, and we support solar, wind and clean energy projects in Africa and Asia that have a real impact, help create jobs and empower vulnerable communities.”
