KTU in Kaunas, hosts latest ERN Workshop
- April 11, 2016
On 18th March 2016, Professor Jurgis Staniskis at Institute of Environmental Engineering (APINI) Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania hosted a group from the ERN (European Remanufacturing Network) for a well-attended one-day workshop.
Erik Sundin from Linköping University led the day of presentations and seminar sessions during which it was reported that there is a strong cultural preference for remanufacturing in Lithuania but, as yet, a few standards, systems or procurement methods to support its development. Remanufacturing was discussed from the perspectives of business models, product design and process design. The ERN is organising further workshops during 2016 to promote the adoption of remanufacturing across Europe, see www.remanufacturing.eu/events.
David Fitzsimons, from ERN project managers Oakdene Hollins, said “This Lithuanian workshop highlighted the need for more skilled staff and supportive infrastructure if the advantages of low labour and land costs are to be converted into jobs and growth in remanufacturing in the country. There is a lot to do”.
