200 European scientists, researchers, politicians and industrialists gathered for the opening of the Fraunhofer Institute Project Group’s Processinnovation new laboratory last week.
Located at the edge of the campus of Bayreuth University in Germany, the new building will form the backbone of European process innovation and remanufacturing over the coming years. Built at a cost of 8 million euro, the facility was opened by, amongst others, Franz Josef Pschierer, Minister of State at Bavaria’s Ministry of Industry, Bayreuth’s Lord Mayor, Brigitte Merk-Erbe and Professor Rolf Steinhilper, Head of Fraunhofer-Projektgruppe Prozessinnovation.
The building comprises 1,000 sq. m. office space for a staff of 50, 850 sq. m. of workshops and laboratories as well as a number of storage rooms, teaching facilities and meeting rooms. The project has been under way since its earliest concept close to 5 years ago.
