- May 06, 2015
Dr. Janez Potoĉnik, the EU Commissioner for the Environment until last year, has accepted an invitation to deliver a keynote speech at the 2014 World Remanufacturing Summit in Amsterdam on June 16, 2015.
The summit is part of an annually rotating series of international conferences aimed at linking academic research and industrial practitioners of remanufacturing globally. Initiated in Bayreuth, Germany, in 2012, subsequent conferences have taken place in Shanghai in 2013 and in Rochester, New York in 2014.
The founding organisations comprise University of Bayreuth, Germany, the National Key Laboratory for Remanufacturing in Beijing, China and Rochester Institute of Technology, New York.
"Dr. Potoĉnik brings very extensive knowledge of sustainability issues to the conference platform," says Conference Chairman, Professor Dr. Ing Rolf Steinhilper, Head of Bayreuth University’s Chair Manufacturing and Remanufacturing Technology and a world-leader within the field of remanufacturing. "His presence will emphasise the increasing need for partnerships between research and industry and ensure that conference attendees gain new insight into the benefits of remanufacturing."
The European Union Commissioner for the Environment between 2010 and 2014, Slovenian-born Janez Potoĉnik is currently co-chair of the United Nations’ International Resource Panel (IRP), a key scientific forum for scientists and experts working in the area of natural resource management.
The Panel consists of eminent scientists highly skilled in resource management issues and its reports distill the latest scientific, technical and socio-economic findings around global resource use. Moreover, the panel provides advice and connections between policy-makers, industry and the community on ways to improve global and local resource management. Its members include scientists and governments from both developed and developing regions, civil society, industrial and international organisations.
The World Remanufacturing Summit will run in conjunction with the ReMaTec2015 remanufacturing Exhibition at the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from June 14 to 16.
