Guangzhou (formerly referred to as Canton) is China’s third largest city after Shanghai and Beijing, with an estimated population of 14.5 million inhabitants. The administrative capital of the Guangdong province, the city is situated on the banks of the Pearl River, close to Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzen. Guangzhou has a large automotive manufacturing cluster. It is home to Guangzhou Automobile Group Co (GAC), a large Chinese vehicle manufacturer (annual prediction over 29 million units) which has joint ventures with Fiat Chrysler, Honda, Mitsubishi and Toyota. GAC’s vehicles are sold under its own local brands such as AION, Everus, Gonow, Liebao and Trumpchi.
